NEW DELHI: The All-India Forward Bloc one of the four Left parties supporting the UPA at the Centre on Saturday said it would launch a nationwide people's movement against price rice as the Government had ``miserably failed'' to keep the prices of essential commodities under check.

Party general secretary Debabrata Biswas said the Government remained silent as the inflation rate began spiralling a couple of weeks ago. Of the view that the rise in inflation and prices was the result of economic mismanagement, he pointed out that the Government had ignored suggestions made by the Left parties.

The Government did not show the political will to ban forward trading; instead it encouraged it. Also, the Government totally ignored the Public Distribution System, and the Food Corporation of India failed to intervene to control the prices of essential commodities, Mr. Biswas said.
