Chandigarh: Moninder Singh Pandher's son on Thursday described the attack on his father as an instance of ``human rights abuse'' and demanded that an attempt to murder case be filed against the assailants.

``It's shocking that such a thing can happen in a democratic country. My father is just an accused and has not been held guilty. Today's incident has caused great mental trauma to us and we demand stringent punishment against those who rained blows on my father,'' Karandeep Singh told reporters here.

He asked the Uttar Pradesh Government, the Centre and the State's Director General of Police to file an FIR against ``the lawyers who assaulted my father'' and the people caught on camera, as it was a ``clear instance of human rights abuse.''

Mr. Singh said the case should be filed under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation). He wanted the Uttar Pradesh Government to ensure proper security to his father. He also took a dig at the media, accusing it of projecting his father as a ``big criminal.''

``The agencies concerned are already probing the case. The media should desist from jumping to conclusions. My father has not been pronounced guilty. He should be given a fair trial.'' PTI
