CHENNAI: The Indo-U.S. nuclear deal signed into law in Washington is a seal of approval to India’s nuclear concubinage, said Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Saturday.

Talking to reporters, Dr. Swamy said the deal would not confer on India the status of a nuclear weapons state on a par with the U.S., Russia, China, the U.K. and France.

“It is like remaining a concubine. You may get a bungalow, a BMW car and whatever you want. But you can never claim the status of a wife. India has signed the deal just to get uranium. It will not gain entry into the exclusive nuclear club,” he explained.

Alleging that the LTTE was using innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka as a shield in the war against the country’s army, Dr. Swamy said India could intervene and help the Tamils only if LTTE chief Prabakaran surrendered in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. “We cannot forgive him for killing the former prime minister of the country. The LTTE killed so many Tamil leaders like Amirthalingam and Sabaratnam,” he said.

Dr. Swamy demanded a High Court-monitored CBI investigation into the killing of Hindu sanyasi Swami Lakshmanananda in Orissa, saying it was a contract killing by the Maoists.
