NEW DELHI: The European Commission will provide €2 million (Rs. 12.7 crore) as a relief fund for flood victims in northern India and Nepal.
A decision on financing €1 million was taken last week to help Nepalese affected by the floods and more than €1 million is being mobilised for food aid and other relief activities in Bihar, says a Commission release.
The Commission’s Humanitarian Aid department team is on its way from New Delhi to assess needs in Bihar. In the initial stages, the emphasis will be on meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people for food, clean drinking water, shelter, essential household items and sanitation.
Relief funds managed by the department are channelled through U.N. agencies, European relief NGOs and the Red Cross/Crescent movement.
