NEW DELHI: Rewards continue to pour in for Indian medal-winners in the Beijing Olympics. While the lone gold medallist, shooter Abhinav Bindra, was presented a luxury car by Volvo, the state-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) announced a Rs.11-lakh award for its former employee, wrestler Sushil Kumar, who won a bronze.

Kumar, while working with MTNL in Delhi till 2004, participated in various national and international tournaments. He won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship 2003 in Ontario (Canada). In 2004, he won a gold medal in the Olympic qualifying championship at Bulgaria, said an official statement. Kumar now works with the Railways.

“It gives us immense pleasure to present Volvo S80 to Abhinav as he has done the country proud by winning a gold medal at Beijing Olympics,” said Paul de Voijs, managing director, Volvo Car India.
