LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has defended the investigations conducted by the Noida police in the Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj double murder case.

The government has also denied the charge of character assassination of the deceased teenaged school girl, who was killed along with her domestic help in the night of May 15-16.

The girl’s father, Rajesh Talwar, arrested by the Noida police about a week after the sensational crime for his alleged involvement in the murders, was on Friday given a clean chit by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The double murder case was referred to the CBI by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. Immediately thereafter, the IG of Meerut Zone, Gurdarshan Singh, and Noida SSP, A. Satish Ganesh, were transferred by the Chief Minister.

State Home Secretary, Kumar Kamlesh and IG, Law and Order, Bhanu Pratap Singh told journalists here that the Noida police’s investigations were on the right course. They said before the police could proceed further, the CBI took over the investigation.

The officials denied that efforts were made to falsely implicate Dr. Talwar. They said investigations were conducted on different lines and the dentist was arrested. It is possible that the police could have reached the actual culprits before the case was taken up by the CBI.

Following the arrest of the dentist, the ADG (Law and Order) Brij Lal and the IG of the Meerut Zone, Gurdarshan Singh, said at press conferences in Lucknow and Noida that the girl and the domestic help were allegedly murdered by Dr. Talwar. Aarushi’s alleged proximity to Hemraj was given as the cause of the double murder. According to the UP police officials, Hemraj was murdered first.

Thereafter, Dr. Talwar had a few drinks before allegedly killing his daughter, they added.
