PUDUCHERRY: Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal on Wednesday said that the West Bengal government would find a settlement to the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha’s demand for a full-fledged State.

Mr. Jaiswal, who was here to hold a review meeting on internal security and law and order, told reporters here that he was hopeful that the [Gorkhaland] issue would be settled in a peaceful manner.

“The West Bengal government would talk to them [Gorkha Janamukti Morcha] and settle the matter,” he said, adding that law and order and police were the State subjects.

Asked about reports that Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil was open to tripartite talks comprising the Centre, the West Bengal government and the GJM, he said, “If it is necessary, there may be a tripartite meeting” on the issue.

Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy and Lok Sabha Member M. Ramadass also participated in the meeting.
