“Government has no will or strategy”
Concern over gunning down of people in Assam
Conveys sympathies to affected families
NEW DELHI: The “recurring failure” of the Congress in combating terror in the northeast would adversely impact on development of the region, Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani stated here on Friday.
Criticising the government for having neither the will nor a strategy to combat this serious menace, Mr. Advani said the attack on trucks carrying materials and the killing of drivers and labourers would impact the region as a whole. He was referring to the gunning down of innocent people on Thursday in two separate incidents in the North Cachar Hills in Assam.
Conveying sympathies to the families of those killed, Mr. Advani paid special tributes to the driver who had shown courage wand whose action had saved several lives.
Separately, BJP MP from the northeast Kiren Rijiju said the incident was a matter of deep concern as the entire belt of Southern Assam would be gripped by fear and this would hamper normal life and affect development.
Mr. Rijiju blamed the State government of Assam for not responding to the unilateral ceasefire declared by the Dima Halam Daogah (DHD), the group suspected to be behind the most recent attacks. “We should open our doors to the misguided youth,” he stated while criticising the State government for its “indifferent attitude” to the DHD leading to “further alienation of their cadre.”
