New York: India’s Ajay Chhibber has been appointed Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Director of its regional bureau for Asia and the Pacific, the world body has announced.

Mr. Chhibber, a World Bank official who worked with the Planning Commission, was an economics lecturer at Delhi University, replaces Hafiz Pasha.

He will hold the rank of Assistant Secretary General.

An alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics, Mr. Chhibber has been working with the World Bank for over 25 years, covering both research and policy issues.

Having worked across Asia, he is now the Country Director for Vietnam, where he manages more than $ 1 billion in lending. He was staff director on the World Development Report in 1997 and served as a senior economist at the World Bank. — PTI
