ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday came out strongly in support of China over the violent protests in Tibet, condemning the incidents as an attempt by “vested interests” to politicise and subvert the spirit of the Beijing Olympic Games.
A Foreign Office spokesman said Tibet was an “inalienable part of China,” and universally acknowledged as such by the international community.
“Pakistan is firmly opposed to any attempts to undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
Pakistan was also opposed to attempts to “politicise and subvert the Beijing Olympic Games,” he said, adding that “this includes the violent protests by certain vested interests to tarnish the spirit of the Olympic Games by encouraging violence in Tibet, which we condemn.”
He said the Olympic spirit embodied the “commitment of the host country and its people towards peaceful development, harmonious society and people’s happiness.”
