If a formal request is made, will provide all assistance

NEW DELHI: The Army is prepared to look after Budhiya, the four-year-old fatherless boy from Orissa who was forced to run 65 km. non-stop recently, provided a formal request was made.

"There is no formal request till now but as is the case with other talented children, the Army is ready to provide all possible assistance to the child," Chief of Army Staff J.J. Singh said after a function here on Friday.

Gen. Singh pointed out that the Army is grooming talented children so that they could represent the country in various sports. Budhiya is very young and the priority for him is good education and nourishment. "At an appropriate time, he can be helped to harness his natural talent. The Army also has special equipment for sportspersons and any shortcoming in Budhiya's health can be detected early. If we receive a formal request, the Army will provide all possible assistance," he added.
