Five members of the Legislative Council have taken strong objection to the lack of interest shown by the State government and A.P. Genco in completing the 120 MW power generating unit of K.L. Rao Sagar (Pulichintala Multi-Purpose Project).
At a press conference here on Wednesday, after reviewing the progress of the Pulichintala Project on site, Krishna-Guntur Teachers’ MLC K.S. Lakshmana Rao, Graduates MLC B.
Nageswara Rao, Ilapuram Venkaiah and Rayapati Srinivas said that while the dam portion was nearing completion, the power generation unit could be completed only by early 2015.
“We have taken the status report from the technical persons in charge of the implementation of the project and propose to meet the Chief Minister in Hyderabad in a couple of days to get works expedited by fixing the responsibility,” said Mr. Lakshman Rao.
At a time when the State badly needs power, AP Genco does not seem bothered to complete the four units of 30 MW each, which could meet the power needs for two districts from June this year.
“We believe that water can be impounded by June and project completed by August/September with only seven crest gates to be fixed,” the MLCs added.
