Aligarh Muslim University has served a show-cause notice on the secretary of the AMU Teachers' Association for holding a demonstration against Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid's visit to the university for the Founder's Day function this past week.
Following the notice to Prof. Mustafa Zaidi, the AMU Teachers' Association has warned that if it is not withdrawn, the teachers will launch an agitation to protest the move. The Association also passed a resolution alleging that the Vice-Chancellor's arbitrary notice to Professor Zaidi was “an attempt to throttle the democratic functioning of the University”.
Mr. Khurshid had skipped the annual Sir Syed Day celebrations at AMU on October 17 after protesting teachers and students claimed that his attendance would give “legitimacy” to Vice-Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis who is facing a CBI probe into graft charges. - PTI
