The Aligarh Muslim University Court, the highest governing body of the university, has shortlisted three names for the post of Vice-Chancellor. They are Lt-Gen (Retd) Zameeruddin Shah, former Union Secretary Noor Mohammad and retired IPS officer from U.P. cadre Khalid Rizvi.

The three names are being forwarded to President Pratibha Patil in her capacity as Visitor of the University for a final decision.

The AMU Court took this decision by voting at its special meeting which ended on Sunday evening. While Gen Shah, who attended the meeting, secured 97 votes out of 118, Mr. Noor Mohammad secured 85 and Mr. Rizvi 83.

The meeting was presided over by former Vice-Chancellor Mahmoodur Rahman.

Gen. Shah is an alumnus of St. Joseph's College, Nainital, and did his M.Sc. in Defence Studies and Management from Madras University in 1980. A recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, is is the brother of veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah. Mr. Noor Mohammad retired from the IAS in 2011 and has served as Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority. - PTI
