The Alcheringa 2014, the 18th edition of annual cultural fest of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati got off to a sparkling opening on Thursday with Villalobos Brothers, a Mexican group of violinists entertaining thousands of cultural enthusiasts from institutions across the country.
On Friday the Alcheringa spotlight was on “The Red Bull Tour Bus” as for the crowd it was a unique experience of a band performing for the first time in the region on a 20-foot bus.
As the crowd danced with rocking performance by local metal band Lucid Recess, the heavy metal band from Delhi Undying Inc. set the headliner for the night.
A performance by the alternative pop music band from New York – BETTY, which promotes tolerance, equality and fights gender- based violence through music and a mesmerising musical nite by Shilpa Rao, who has sung some Bollywood hit songs like ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ , ‘Jazba’ , ‘Allah Maaf Karein’ scaled up the tone of the musical extravaganza on Saturday.
Rock – O – Phonix, the flagship event of Alcheringa witnessed the participation of 450 bands in this edition. Udit Singh, Head, Media and Communications, Alcheringa 2014 told The Hindu that the Annual cultural fest of IIT, Guwahati had grown to mammoth proportions in terms of participation of from other IITs and colleges across the country.
