“Actor Shweta Menon’s retraction of her complaint of molestation bid against the Congress MP, Peethambara Kurup, is a slight on the rule of law,” the All India Democratic Women’’s Association (AIDWA) said in a statement here. With increasing incidents of violation of women’s privacy in public places being reported, it is a need of the society that those who attempt to misbehave or denigrate women in public places are brought to book, it has said.
“Women should have the courage”
“This can happen only if the women in question show the courage to bring forth their complaint and have the conviction and responsibility to stand by it,” AIDWA said. Going by the visuals shown in the media, the government and the judiciary have the right to take cognisance of the crime and take suo motu action. Many women go back on pursuing their complaint because of financial difficulties and related issues.
“However, by withdrawing her complaint, Ms.Menon, who is socially and financially well-placed, has challenged the rule of law,” AIDWA said. It demanded that in the common interest of society, the Kerala government should take legal action against the Congress MP.
