A pioneer in women's movement in Andhra Pradesh, Moturu Tanya(70), died here on Wednesday night. She was ailing for quite some time.
Dr. Tanya, honorary president of the Prakasam district unit of the All India Democratic Women's Association, is survived by husband, a son and a daughter.
The daughter of veteran CPI (M) leader Moturu Hanumantha Rao and Moturu Udhayam, Dr. Tanya earned a place in the hearts of poor by providing free treatment to poor pregnant women and by holding medical camps periodically for their benefit.
A tireless activist, she had worked relentlessly for building the women's movement in the State.
Veteran AIDWA leader Mallu Swarajyam, AIDWA State joint secretary K. Subbaravamma, CPI (M) district secretary J. Anjaiah, activists of various women groups were among several who were present at her funeral here on Thursday.
