The land valuation of the plot on which the Adarsh housing society stands was reduced by 20 per cent, Kamalakar Sakharam Akode, who was working as joint director, Town Planner (Valuation) from 2004 to 2009, said in his testimony to the Adarsh inquiry commission on Monday. While Mr. Akode said he rejected the society's request for another categorisation with much low valuation rate, he added: “While fixing the valuation, I allowed 20 per cent reduction in the valuation.” “Out of the said reduction, 10 per cent reduction is given on account of the land in question being adjacent to a slum and the bus depot as per the [survey] number and not as per the factual position of the site. The remaining 10 per cent reduction was given on the ground that the land was abutting the narrow road,” Mr. Akode said.

He said he did not bring to the notice of the society that “there was a discrepancy between its letter and the map [over location of the plot].”
