On the 101st day of his indefinite fast in Haridwar on Saturday, environmental engineer-professor G.D. Agrawal (81), baptised as Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand in July 2011, stopped his water intake. Dr. Agrawal has been protesting against the construction of hydroelectric projects on the Alaknanda and the Mandakini rivers. The Supreme Court on August 13 directed the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and the State government not to grant clearance for hydroelectric power projects in the State until further orders. — Kavita Upadhyay
