JAIPUR: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on Thursday said the party's stand against imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh was not because of Mulayam Singh. "It was a principled stand by the party against the use of Article 356," Mr. Karat said at the CPI (M) State office, Mazdoor Kisan Bhawan.
"Thank goodness, it is all over with the announcement of election in U.P.!" was how Mr. Karat reacted to a query on the differences over the issue with the Congress and the rest of the constituents of the UPA. "Let me put it this way. It was because of us that the Government in U.P. was not dismissed," he said. "From the announcement of election I consider that the matter is over now."
