Over 950 trucks bringing various consumer items, fertilizers, construction materials and medicines along National Highway-37 are stranded due to landslips and bad road conditions between Kumbirol and Barak in Tamenglong district of Manipur.
Ranjit H, president of the Transporters and Drivers Council, said the trucks were stranded from Thursday morning. Officials of the State government and the Border Roads Organisation have not yet informed the stranded drivers when the highway would open again. Since the trucks are stranded in isolated mountains, drivers, cleaners and several hundreds of passengers face starvation and other inconveniences.
Mr. Ranjit said in view of the present condition, it could take up to three days for the trucks to reach Imphal.
