83 passports seized from Sri Lankan

The Nilgiris police on Sunday arrested Thiagaramu (32), a resident of Sri Lanka, allegedly for human trafficking and seized 83 Sri Lankan passports.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Monday, Superintendent of Police S.Nizamuddin said following a tip-off that the Sri Lankan Tamil was moving about in a suspicious manner in Pandhalur taluk, vigil was stepped up.

Late in the evening, he was cornered at Devala.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was part of a human trafficking racket and was trying to send Sri Lankan citizens to countries such as Iraq and Australia.
