Forest Department authorities have completed the planting of 64 lakh saplings across the State, months ahead of the scheduled time.
The planting was part of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s birthday programme, which began in February this year. Completion of the project, at a cost of Rs. 29.4 crore, is scheduled for March 2013.
Forest Department sources said that the planting work began in the first week of March. After that saplings could not be planted in the next few months as dry weather prevailed. The work resumed once this was over.
