Four fishermen, who set out on the ‘Adbuthamathavu’ boat off the Punnapra coast, were feared missing in the seas as they failed to reach the shores by late evening.

Efforts to contact them proved futile.

Two interceptor boats of the Coastal Police station at Thottappally have started search operations.

Additional Divisional Magistrate K.P.Thampy told The Hindu that the Navy and the Coast Guard had been alerted. The fishermen were identified as Antony, Varghese, Moly and Saiju, all natives of the Biyani beach at Punnapara. They had set out in a small fibre fishing boat, which as per reports do not venture too deep into the sea.

The fishermen did not possess any mobile phone and hence efforts to contact them turned futile. They had set out to sea by 7.30 a.m. and they were expected back by 4 p.m. .

Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal and District Collector P.Venugopal visited the place.
