KANDAHAR: Gunmen robbed and shot dead four Afghans working for an Indian road construction company in southern Afghanistan, a provincial government spokesman said on Sunday.

The men were killed on Saturday in Maiwand district of Kandahar province, known to be a stronghold of the Taliban.

It was too early to say whether the Taliban was behind the killing, Kandahar government spokesman Daud Ahmadi said. ``We don't know whom the attackers were affiliated to,'' he told AFP. The killers took away $80,000 and the vehicle the men were travelling in, Mr. Ahmadi said.
