As many as 25 persons were injured, one of them seriously, when a mini-lorry in which they were travelling, plunged into the Nagarjunasagar project canal at Karumanchi, near Chimakurthi in Prakasam district on Thursday.

The injured, labourers from T. Somalaguduru village in Nandavaram mandal in neighbouring Kurnool district, were returning home after working in the Bengal gram fields near Karavadi in Prakasam district, police said. The injured were given first aid at the community health centre at Chimakurthi and later shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences here. The mishap occurred when the mini-lorry driver tried to avoid hitting a lorry coming in the opposite direction, police added.
