Varsity to sponsor their travel and accommodation, which comes to around Rs. 1.63 lakh per student

Three swimmers of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) have been selected to represent India at the 2013 Summer Universiade, a biennial competition organised by the International University Sports Federation, to be held from July 6 to 17 at Kazan, Russia.

According to a press release issued by VTU Vice-Chancellor H. Maheshappa here on Tuesday, Pooja Alva of R.V. College of Engineering, Ashwin Menon of M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology and Nammi Divya Theja of P.E.S. Institute of Technology, all from Bangalore, have been selected. The selections were made by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. Pooja and Ashwin have been selected in the swimming category and Nammi in the diving category.

Prof. Maheshappa said it was for the first time in VTU’s history that three swimmers had been selected for such a prestigious sports event.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that VTU would sponsor their travel and accommodation, which would come to around Rs. 1.63 lakh per student.

Prof. Maheshappa praised VTU registrar K.E. Prakash and director of physical education Bettegowda for their efforts in getting the three students selected.
