The Andhra Pradesh Medical Council will ask doctors who have been issued registration certificates as MD ‘physicians' to appear before its Registrar to get the certificates altered as MD ‘physician' equivalent to MBBS.
The decision to summon the doctors was taken as instances had come to the notice of the council that those possessing MD (biochemistry), MD (pathology), MD (anatomy), MD (physiology) and other such degrees displayed their qualification merely as MD, giving impression that they possessed MD (general medicine) qualification.
A release of the council said the doctors with registration certificates as MD ‘physicians' would be advised to mention in their signboards, prescription pads, letter heads and referral pads the words MD ‘physicians' equivalent to MBBS.
They would be required to send the evidence to the council within one month. Failure to adhere to the rule will attract penal action.
