City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu on Saturday said that a special team has been formed to nab the culprits involved in the theft of jewellery from wedding halls.

Seventy sovereigns of jewellery were stolen from a wedding hall on Avarampalayam Road on May 27.

In another incident on May 20, 15-and-a--half sovereigns of jewellery were stolen from the bridegroom's room in Andal Thirumana Mandapam on Trichy Road.

The commissioner said that the wedding hall owners should fix closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) at the entrance and near the wedding stage, to monitor the movement of people.

A team of policemen headed by the Race Course Police Inspector Periyasamy conducted an inquiry at the marriage hall on Avarampalayam Road.

Workers and security personnel were enquired about suspicious movement of persons during the wedding.
