up in arms: Sugarcane growers staging a protest on the Bangalore-Mysore Highway on Thursday.

The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has warned of disrupting Mysore Dasara events if the State government does not fix an advance price of Rs. 3,000 a tonne for sugarcane supplied to factories, which have already started the crushing season.

The KRRS leaders announced this after holding a meeting at the Inspection Bungalow, off the Bangalore–Mysore Highway, here on Thursday.

They criticised Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh, who is also Mandya district in charge, for failing to address sugarcane growers’ problems. Later, they blocked the Bangalore–Mysore Highway for some time.

K.N. Nanjungegowda, V. Ashoka, Rajegowda, Jayaram, Narasaraju and Shambhunahalli Suresh were present.
