Gujarat IPS official Rahul Sharma has filed three petitions before the Central Administrative Tribunal, alleging that he is being “harassed” by the State government with mala fide intentions.

He was denied promotion as Inspector-General allegedly for not toeing the government line during the 2002 communal riots.

Mr. Sharma submitted two compact discs containing call records of the riots as evidence while assisting the probe into the Gulberg Society and Naroda Patiya massacres.

The official was charge sheeted on December 6, 2013, and downgraded in his annual confidential report. Challenging the charges, Mr. Sharma said he was issued a charge sheet just 24 hours ahead of a meeting for promotions of DIGs.

According to counsel M.N. Rao, the government slapped six show-cause notices on Mr. Sharma for giving cash awards to junior colleagues though there was nothing new about this practice.
