A 45-year-old wholesale drug peddler was nabbed near the seashore in Kasimedu of north Chennai on Tuesday when he was trying to hide a huge consignment that he had managed to get from Andhra Pradesh through train. A special six-member team led by Kasimedu (law&order) inspector, S. John Sundar, made the arrest based on an alert from an informant.
The police said R. Ravi alias ‘Powder’ Ravi had been on the run for several months following a crackdown on drug peddling in the northern neighbourhood. Based on specific information that Ravi might visit his house in Kasimedu, a police team maintained a watch at the spot from Monday night. Ravi, who was on foot, was intercepted by the team. But Ravi immediately took a knife from his waist and threatened to attack the team. The police team finally overpowered him and seized one kilogram of ganja from him.
A case has been registered by the Kasimedu police.
