The Congress- backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and the BJP backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) are the biggest players in student politics in Delhi as one of them usually emerges the winner of the Delhi University Students’ Union.

The NSUI has around 30,000 registered members in Delhi whereas ABVP says it has around 45,000.

The CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation-affiliated All-India Students' Association (AISA) has not won elections for many years, but has managed to be the third and fourth runner-up often.

CPI (M) Students’ Federation of India and the CPI-affiliated All-India Students’ Federation have not created a dint in Delhi University, usually coming fourth or fifth.
