The role of educational institutions is to instil knowledge and good character in students as it is the place where scientists are nurtured, leaders are groomed and intellectuals are encouraged, P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai, said here on Saturday.
At the seventh graduation day at Paavai Institutions, Mr. Mannar Jawahar said that in the fast-paced world of information and technological progress, it was the duty of the academic community to promote the student-faculty relationship, which was very essential and significant for students to pursue learning with passion.
He called upon the students to use the multiplicity of opportunities created by new frontiers in education and said that the graduates should face the challenges in their career and also participate in the nation building activities.
N.V. Natarajan, chairman of Paavai Institutions, said parents played a major role in shaping the lives of the students and asked them to lead a well-planned life.
He also spoke about the various education assistance schemes provided to students of the institutions.
As many as 948 students were presented with degree certificates, including 48 students of Paavai College of Education, 175 postgraduates and 375 undergraduates of Paavai Engineering College and 79 postgraduates and 241 undergraduates of Paavai College of Engineering.
Mr. Mannar Jawahar presented gold medals and ‘one sovereign' gold to 67 university rank holders on the occasion.
