Social networking, hitherto perceived as an interactive platform where people share their experiences, is turning out to be a major source for organisations to recruit talent.

Use of social media by recruiters to reach right candidates is on the rise, as employees are sharing information about job openings in their teams to their friends through social networking sites.

Sensing an opportunity, WhistleTalk, a start-up led by Vinoo Chacko, has evolved an enterprise solution leveraging social network for e-referrals.

Funded by Hyderabad Angels, WhistleTalk’s easy to use online solution is offered as SaaS (Software as a Service) application with zero maintenance costs. According to Mr. Chacko, the solution would help organisations in reducing the cost per hire and this could, in turn, be spent as reward to employees for bringing the right talent on board. “Employers can sign up to the solution and within hours their employees start sharing information about opening with their friends on social networks,” Mr. Chacko said. Employees acquired through referrals are hired quicker, stay longer and cost less to recruit and they are estimated to move 55 per cent faster than those who come through job sites. WhistleTalk, according to him, would not require any local IT resources as the solution was offered as SaaS “As openings are referred by friends, even candidates considered passive tend to apply,” he said.
