More CISF men arrive at the centre on L.R.G. College premises
Security at the counting centre on L.R.G. College premises here was further strengthened with the arrival of more Central Industrial Security Force men on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police A. Arun told The Hindu that 581 personnel from the State police and 96 from various Central Armed Police Forces, including the 20 CISF men arrived on Wednesday, were now deployed at the counting centre. “We are offering four-tier security with CISF and Railway Protection Special Force men posted in the first layer engulfing the strong rooms where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were stored, personnel from Tamil Nadu Special Police in the second layer, policemen from Armed Reserve battalion in the third layer and local police strength in the outermost layer closed to the entrance of the L.R.G. College,” he explained.
The 581 personnel utilised from state police for security at the counting centre include one Additional Superintendent of Police, five Deputy Superintendents of Police, 17 Inspectors, 58 Sub-Inspectors and remaining other ranked men.
This apart, the police administration had deployed 445 personnel from the State police for mobile patrolling and at pickets outside the counting centre and in various critical areas in the district.
The strength deployed for peripheral areas (i.e. 445 personnel) include four Inspectors, 79 Sub-Inspectors and 362 other ranked men, Mr Arun said.
