Former Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran on Tuesday was granted bail in connection with a cheating case registered against him recently.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge, R. Krishnamoorthi, however, imposed conditions that he should surrender before March 18 and sign at the Aruppukottai Town police station every day at 10 a.m. Mr. Ramachandran’s relative, Subbaraj, who is a co-accused in the case, too was granted bail with similar conditions.
A DMK functionary and former Chairperson of S. Kodikulam Town pachayat, J.M. Gose, had complained that Mr. Ramachandran, who is the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Virudhunagar district secretary, had taken Rs. 32 lakh from him on the promise of getting him a seat to contest in the 2011 Assembly election from Srivilliputtur Assembly constituency on the DMK ticket.
However, he was not allotted the seat. Mr. Ramachandran had refused to return the money.
Mr. Subbaraj, along with Ramachandran, had threatened him with dire consequences.
The Aruppukottai Town police had registered a case for cheating and criminal breach of trust.
