Prime Minister Nehru told the Lok Sabha on September 5 that Government would take up, at diplomatic level with other countries, particularly those in the Commonwealth, the question of violation of Indian territory by the Portuguese troops. Replying to a short-notice question by Mr. Hiren Mukherji, Mr. Nehru said the Government did not contemplate any military action in this matter. Any other type of action which was feasible would be taken. Mr. Mukherji had asked if in view of the repeated violation of international law and morality by Portuguese troops, the Government would seriously contemplate any action other than registering protests, and “roughly” what this action would be.
