The President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, has commended the holding of international art exhibitions as a means of fostering goodwill and understanding among nations. "This is an activity whose importance cannot be exaggerated in the present-day world when international goodwill and understanding are absolutely necessary for the progress and happiness of mankind," he said, while inaugurating the second national exhibition of art organised by the Lalit Kala Akadami in New Delhi on January 15. He said he was glad that the Akadami in the short space of two years had made a beginning in this direction. He made particular mention of the exhibitions of paintings from Canada, Hungary and China organised by the Akadami. Presiding over the function, Mr. D.P. Roy Chowdhury, Chairman of the Lalit Kala Akadami, said the Akadami would be organising a seminar on art education next month and an exhibition of Buddhist art in November. It would be part of the programme of Lord Buddha's 2500th birth anniversary.
