The President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on December 28 called on the student community not to lay “faulty emphasis” on their rights, neglecting the “stress on duty”. He added that of late there had been too much stress on rights in our country. Every section of population was worried not only claiming, but if possible enforcing, its rights. In the midst of the resultant noise, the call of duty was either forgotten or relegated to a place of unimportance. “No one, therefore, need be surprised if we found symptoms of imbalance in the Indian society.” Dr. Prasad was delivering the convocation address at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur on December 28.
