Dr. C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar said in Madras on December 16 that the duty and the privilege of a writer was to claim and seek to establish cultural freedom, which meant freedom, not only from State regulation or patronage and freedom from fear of persecution, but also from the equal danger arising from mob pre-possessions and the effect of crowd psychology as manifested in the cinema, radio, television and sensational writings. Dr. Ramaswami Aiyar was inaugurating the All-India Writers’ Conference on December 16 at the S.I.E.T. Women’s College Theatre, Teynampet. Mr. Tara Sankar Banerjee from Bengal, presided.
