The police on Sunday arrested five persons on the charges of abetting suicide of two brothers at Avinashi recently.
The siblings, P. Senthil Kumar (34) and P. Elango (32), were found hanging in two separate rooms at their home on July 16.
Superintendent of Police Asra Garg said that the arrested, C. Nataraj (44), A. Subrmanian (34), P. Sivakumar (34), N. Kannan (31), and K. Thangamani (44), put enormous psychological pressure on the two brothers by demanding exorbitant interest on the amount they lent to the duo.
They gave Rs. 7.5 lakh to the brothers for meeting capital requirements in their business and demanded interests almost above four times the prevailing market rate, he added.
Warned
The district police had issued a warning that stringent action would be taken against people who were found charging exorbitant interests on the amounts they lend to needy people exploiting their financial predicament.
