More students prefer short duration postgraduate courses
Media studies and design are gaining popularity Indian education system similar to that in U.K. Average cost of MBA in U.K. ranges from £ 6,000 to £ 20,000 and the cost of living is £ 7,000 per annum
Bangalore: Hundreds of students thronged The Education U.K. exhibition here on Thursday.
Representatives from over 60 institutions briefed students regarding the courses offered, cost of education, application, and student life in the U.K.
Most of the representatives of U.K. universities cater to a wide range of subject areas at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
"Like last year, this year too Master of Business Administration (MBA) is the most sought after course," said L. Dhanasekaran, head of British Council's Education U.K.
He said that media studies, design, paramedical courses, law and research related fields are gaining popularity.
"There is a sharp increase in the number of students enquiring about journalism and communication courses," said Steve Berridge, International Marketing Manager, University of Westminster.
Except in Scotland, postgraduate courses anywhere else in the U.K. are sought after as they are of a short duration.
"A one-year masters programme will help me gain quick access into the job market. Having an international degree will increase my job prospects," said Kreeda, an MBA aspirant.
The Indian education system is similar to that of the U.K., which explains why it is a popular education destination. Although the best universities were present at the fair, none of them guaranteed a job on completion of course.
There are various schemes such as the fresh talent scheme and the Science and Engineering Graduate scheme that provide an opportunity for students to work in the U.K. after their course.
According to the organisers, the average cost of an MBA in the U.K. ranges from £ 6,000 to £ 20,000. Living cost is over £ 7,000 per annum and varies according to location.
Students were informed about various partial and full scholarship schemes.
Queries related to courses, student visas, and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) were answered during seminars held on the occasion. For a comprehensive look at study options in the U.K., visit the website: www.educationuk-in.org.
