DHAKA: The former Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, who was detained by the military-backed caretaker government eight months ago, on Sunday, said she would not quit politics under pressure from her political adversaries.
“Those in the caretaker government who want to keep me out of politics by filing cases one after another must remember that I won’t give up under anyone’s diktat,” said Ms. Hasina, leader of the Awami League.
Her lawyers said : “It would be my people and I who would decide whether I should continue in politics.” Her remarks came at a time when speculation was rife that she might quit politics “under pressure” and leave the country. Ms. Hasina said her party would not participate in the elections without her.
“I have been asked to quit politics, but I will not retire under pressure,” said Ms. Hasina.
