Malala Yousafzai has undergone surgery to repair her skull which was badly damaged when she was shot in the head by a militant last October.
Doctors at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital said they were “very pleased” with the operation which involved fitting a titanium plate into the missing part of her skull.
During the five-hour procedure on Saturday, a small electronic device was also implanted into her left ear to help her regain hearing.
A spokesperson said Ms. Yousafzai was recovering well. She was awake and talking to doctors and her family members.
Dr. Dave Rosser, medical director, said her recovery was a “a testament to her strength and desire to get better”.
