DUBAI: Iran has officially notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the May 17 nuclear fuel swap deal that it had signed with Turkey and Brazil in Tehran.
The notification was made in the form of a letter that was presented to the IAEA head Yukiya Amano. The closed door meeting with Mr. Amano was attended by the envoys of Iran, Turkey and Brazil.
The notification seeks the IAEA's good offices to formally inform the Vienna group about the contents of the letter. Apart from the IAEA, the Vienna group includes the U.S., Russia, and France. In turn, Iran wants to be informed about the Vienna group's “positive response” to the letter. The missive to Mr. Amano hoped that the steps that are being undertaken would pave the way for negotiations leading to the signing of a “written agreement”, between Iran and the Vienna group.
