JAKARTA: The worsening haze blanketing several western provinces on Indonesia's Sumatra Island has increased respiratory illnesses in the Riau Islands and Jambi provinces, according to a report on Monday. The Batam Hospital treated 35 persons last week for breathing difficulties while about 150 persons sought treatment for breathing problems at health centres in Riau's Batamindo Industrial Estate, reported the major national newspaper The Jakarta Post. In Jambi, 933 patients, many of them children, were treated for respiratory ailments at one clinic in September. Xinhua
