A Bahrain appeals court on Thursday acquitted 21 Shia medics who had been sentenced to three months in jail each for taking part in anti-regime protests in 2011, lawyers said.

They were among a group of 47 medics rounded up in the wake of a crackdown on Shia-led protests in March 2011.

Sporadic protests still take place in mainly Shia neighbourhoods of the minority Sunni-led kingdom. — AP
