MANILA: The forthcoming 12th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will focus on various issues, particularly the security and energy issues confronting the region, the Philippine News Agency reported on Monday.
Louie Cruz, ASEAN director general for the Philippines, was quoted as saying that during the meeting, which will be held in December in Cebu, central Philippines, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will ask ASEAN leaders to give top priority in resolving these two major issues. He also said that Ms. Arroyo has been consistent in her call to address the two issues at various fora.
Other pressing matters that will be discussed at the summit are the nuclear tests of the DPRK , the problems in Malacca Straits, pandemic diseases, migrant workers, trafficking of women among others. Xinhua
