SINGAPORE: Australia has “utterly condemned” the latest bombings in Hyderabad and offered to deepen bilateral ties with India in a wide array of fields ranging from the fight against terrorism to defence matters.

In a statement on Tuesday, Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer praised “India’s resilience and dignity in the face of continuing acts of terrorism.” These attributes “underline” India’s “deep traditions of tolerance,” Mr. Downer said, echoing the new upbeat mood on the bilateral official front.

He noted that Australia and India would be holding official level talks in Canberra over the next two days on counter-terrorism issues under an existing Memorandum of Understanding.

Mr. Downer said: “Australia is continuing to deepen its cooperation with India against terrorism, including through practical activities in the fields of law enforcement, intelligence, border control, and defence.”
